Blood on the Cowley Road – e-book now available
Out just in time for Christmas! Peter’s Blood on the Cowley Road is now available to download as an e-book. The perfect Kindle-mas present!
Blood in Grandpont
Peter's second crime novel, Blood in Grandpont, published in hardback in 2010,
is being published in a large print softcover edition by Ulverscroft in May 2011.
It features some of the same characters as Blood in the Cowley Road, (pub. 2008) and draws again on his own experience of living in the "real Oxford".
At the centre is D I Susan Holden as she struggles to solve a string of murders and come to terms with her own emotional and sexual problems.
Maggie Hartford writes in the Oxford Times
"Tickler's second detective novel is as firmly set in Oxford as his first, Blood on the Cowley Road. Residents who know their way around will be able to picture exactly where Det Insp Susan Holden is as she rushes to the scene of yet another murder, followed by pathologist Dr Karen Pointer. Like the author, both women live in South Oxford, near to Susan's mother, with whom she has a troubled relationship. It's a formula, but one which Tickler has perfected, with enough cliff-hangers to keep the reader turning the pages as the bodies pile up. He has a wonderful gift for creating geographically factual settings for his fictional characters, which creates another layer of pleasure for local readers.
...
A perfect gift for someone who enjoys traditonal detective stories, and knows and loves the non-university side of Oxford, beyond the dreaming spires."
The first person to comment on Amazon wrote: "This is a very good read and has an excellent plot that only unfolds towards the end so that you are kept guessing. Good detail and descriptions of surroundings. I thoroughly enjoyed it."
Praise for Blood in the Cowley Road:
Chris Williams, Oxford United F.C: "Peter's novel is a fantastic read. It's refreshing to read an Oxford book which tells a gripping story from the Town point of view."
Andy Saxton, Perth, Australia: "I have to tell you I thought it was an absolutely marvelous read from start to finish!"
Susan Green, Burnley: "Right up there with the very best"
Peter has been writing for a number of years. The Modern Mercenary: Dog of War or Soldier and Honour? was published in 1987, and was a main Military Book Club selection both sides of the Atlantic. He has contributed to a variety of publications, including books on ski-ing and the Oxford Encyclopedia of History, and has written and broadcasted many Biblical dialogues on local BBC radio. For the present, however, murder is most definitely at the forefront of his mind!
